What is carbide precision machining?

Cemented carbide is an alloy material made from hard compounds of refractory metals and bonding metals through a powder metallurgy process. An alloy composed of one or more carbides and bonded metal is often called a cemented carbide. With the advancement of science and technology and the development of production, many cemented carbide workpieces require precision machining, which has relatively high requirements for tolerance dimensions and surface roughness. Precision parts processing factories are inseparable from cemented carbide.

Cutting is a type of precision machining of carbide. Cutting is one of the commonly used methods for blanking carbide rods, plates, and wires. For grooving or cutting below 1 mm, ultra-thin diamond cutting blades are commonly used for processing.

Diamond resin matrix cutting disc, the outer ring zone is a resin-bonded abrasive working layer, and the central part is made of high-strength and high-rigidity metal material. It is mostly used for grooving and cutting with medium and large depth of cut.

Turning is the most common processing method for precision machining of carbide. In the process of turning carbide parts, the hardness of the tool itself must be higher than the hardness of the workpiece being processed. Therefore, the tool materials currently used for turning carbide parts are mainly high-hardness, high-heat-resistant non-metallic adhesives CBN and PCD.

(1) For carbide parts with hardness less than HRA90, choose BNK30 material CBN tools for large margin turning, and the tools will not be broken or burned. Carbide parts with a hardness greater than HRA90 are generally ground using CDW025 PCD tools or resin-bonded diamond grinding wheels.

(2) When machining precision parts of cemented carbide for grooves above R3, for those with large machining allowances, BNK30 material CBN tools are generally used for rough machining first and then ground with grinding wheels. For small machining allowances, you can grind directly with a grinding wheel, or use PCD tools for profiling.

(3) When processing the crescent groove ribs of cemented carbide rollers, CDW025 diamond engraving and milling cutters (also known as flying cutters and rotary milling cutters) are used.

For the milling process of cemented carbide parts, according to customer needs, CVD diamond-coated milling cutters and diamond insert milling cutters can be provided for precision parts processing. They can replace electrolytic corrosion and electric spark processes to improve production efficiency and product quality. quality.
